Moving to New Hyde Park New York

A New Chapter: Moving to New Hyde Park, New York

New Hyde Park, New York, has much to offer residents, especially those moving to this beautiful community from another place in the state or country. If you're considering moving to New Hyde Park, here are some of the important information and facts that have helped shape this town into what it is today

The History of New Hyde Park

Thomas Dongan, a royal governor of New York in 1683 who had been granted an 800-acre parcel of land, including modern-day New Hyde Park, built a home for himself on what is now Lakeville Road. In 1691, he fled to New England and then Ireland when King James II lost power there. His estate was purchased in 1715 by George Clarke (who was Secretary of the Province of New York), who renamed it Hyde Park—named for his wife Anne—and made various changes to the grounds over time. By 1871, when the local population increased enough to merit one, a post office was opened, which led to renaming the town from Hyde Park to New Hyde Parks (to prevent confusion with a larger area that shared its name). In 1927, residents voted unanimously to incorporate themselves into their own village, separate from Hempstead Township

The People of New Hyde Park

As of the census of 2010, 9,712 people were living in this small town. 31% had children under 18 living with them; 63% were married couples who lived together; 10% were single moms, and 19% lived alone. The average household was 2.9, and the median income for a single person was $55,313.

The Village of New Hyde Park

The real property tax is the leading resource for village governmental activities. Nassau County's 64 incorporated villages vary greatly in size and the type of service they provide to their constituents. Village business is conducted at regularly scheduled Board Meetings. This can also mean special board meetings are convened when necessary- these are open to the general public. Proposal(s) related to village legislation, known as local laws, must be submitted to the residents before being put into effect via duly publicized meeting(s).

The Landmarks of New Hyde Park

Denton House (New Hyde Park, New York) is known as a historic site after citizens fought for its historic designation. It is now a McDonald's restaurant, also known as the McDonald's Mansion. The fast-food chain kept the exterior design and built a drive-through in the back.
